Clarifier Drive
Project Details:
Total Value: $360 000
Year Completed: 2012
Background:
A need emerged for clarifier drive units to support water reclamation plants treating acid mine drainage. Five units were delivered, including two custom-designed variations for 18-meter and 24-meter clarifiers. The scope encompassed motors, gearboxes, and slew rings to form an assembly that actuates all moving components of the clarifier, excluding the shafts connected to the drive.
Description:
The system features two concentric shafts, with a smaller shaft mounted inside a larger-diameter shaft. The external shaft rotates faster than the internal sludge shaft, operating at a slow, constant speed with high torque. To achieve this, two gearboxes are positioned adjacent to each other. A geared slew ring transfers drive horizontally to power the outer concentric shaft, while the centrally mounted gearbox directly drives the internal shaft.
