Blast Chair Test Installation
Project Details:
Total Value: $18 000
Year Completed: 2010
Duration: 2 months
Background:
Chair designs for land mine resistant vehicles had to be performance tested. A hydraulic pulse machine provided the sudden impact force. A carriage on rails provided a mount for the chair to be tested.
Description:
A concept was developed and meticulously designed, incorporating a detailed structural analysis to withstand the high forces exerted on both the cart and the rails. During testing, the hydraulic pulse propelled the cart upward along the rails. Once gravity halted the cart’s movement, latches secured it in a stationary position. The cart could then be released and lowered back onto the hydraulic pulse for subsequent tests. Mass reduction in the cart was prioritized to optimize test outcomes. A comprehensive data pack was compiled, and fabrication, installation, and commissioning were successfully executed on-site.
