Carousel Development

Project Details:

Total Value:     $280 000
Year Completed:    2024
Duration:     18 months

Background:

The project focused on developing a system to characterize individual particles by analyzing properties such as mass and shape. Each particle required individual handling to collect accurate data, potentially involving multiple passes through the system. Traceability of individual particles was a critical requirement throughout the process.

Description:

The carousel system was designed with 18 individual pockets to securely hold particles before releasing them into a processing space. An open pocket receives each particle, ensuring safe retention during rotation while processing takes place. If additional processing is needed, the system recycles the specific particle for further analysis. Once sufficient processing is complete, the particle is dispensed to a microgram scale for precise weighing. The carousel achieves a throughput exceeding 1,000 particles per hour.
